Introduction and general information Foley Catheter
Urinary catheter or urinary catheterization tube is a thin, hollow, and flexible tube that is inserted into the bladder to collect and drain urine. The medical procedure of inserting this tube is known as catheterization.
Uses and Applications
The primary use of a urinary catheter is when urine cannot be properly emptied from the bladder for any reason. A urinary catheter may be used for a short period after surgery when the patient is unable to use the toilet, or for a longer period when a disease or injury requires it.
A urinary catheter is a tube inserted into the bladder through the urethra. The catheter may be temporary or indwelling. Its primary application is to allow urine to be drained from the body through the natural urinary tract when this is not possible due to conditions such as urinary tract obstruction, urinary incontinence, spinal cord injuries, or other medical conditions. A urinary catheter may be used for a specific period or remain in place for long-term use.
