Introduction and general information Nephrostomy Set Applications

Nephrostomy Set Applications:

A nephrostomy set is a soft and flexible tube that can be inserted into the patient’s body without causing significant complications. One end of the tube is placed inside the patient’s body and connected to the kidney, while the other end is connected to a drainage bag. Once the kidney fills with urine, the urine is drained through the tube into the bag.

When the urinary tract is obstructed and the patient is unable to pass urine through the bladder and urethra, nephrostomy is an effective temporary treatment option. The nephrostomy set is available in different sizes ranging from 8 to 14 Fr, with a length of 30 cm, and is made of silicone. It can be used for up to 80 days. The catheter tip is designed in a PIGTAIL configuration.

The nephrostomy set provides a single drainage pathway. It is generally used to manage urinary tract dysfunction and obstruction. This procedure is usually performed by an interventional radiologist and, in some cases, in the operating room.
